Acromitostoma Roewer, 1951
Acromitostoma comprises two sympatric species of small body size roughly distributed south and east of the Strait of Gibraltar in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Male genital morphology is similar to the Pyrenean species of Centetostoma but Acromitostoma exhibit characteristic upward-pointing serration on the wings on the distal penial truncus. Furthermore, species show dorsal ornamentation with rows of bridge thorns lacking in Centetostoma and in most Nemastomatidae known from the Iberian Peninsula.
Taxonomy and Discussion of Phylogenetic Relationships
Male genital morphology, dorsal ornamentation and distribution clearly unite the two species. Relationship to the Pyrenean species of Centetostoma can be assumed from male genital morphology with similar wings, as well as from the structure of the male cheliceral apophyses. The genus has been revised by Rambla (1983).
Ecology and Life History
Species have been recorded from caves or from cork oak forest humus.
