Hadzinia Šilhavý, 1966 - Hadzinia karamani (Hadži, 1940)
Hadzinia karamani is the sole species of the genus only found in deep caves and pits in Bosnia and Croatia, where it is rare. As fully troglobiont, all appendages are extremely elongated and any external armature, coloration and eyes are lost. The body size is about 1 mm.
Taxonomy and Discussion of Phylogenetic Relationships
The simple male genital morphology is interpreted as plesiomorphic, as other troglobionts in Nemastomatidae have retained these complex structures (e.g. Mitostoma anopthalmum, Paranemastoma bureschi). Hadzinia is in many respects very similar to some Caucasian species of Nemaspela, while relationships between the genera are hard to ascertain as similarities could be caused by the convergent character evolution by cave adaption.
